Facebook Announces Hacker Cup Competition 2012

Facebook has announced registration details for it’s second annual Hacker Cup. The first Facebook Hacker Cup was organized in Jan’11. The Hacker Cup is a Facebook’s international coding competition. Here you have to solve algorithmic problems to advance through up to five rounds of programming challenges. The programming language is of your’s choice.

Facebook says, “This is your chance to compete against the world’s best programmers for awesome prizes and the title of World Champion.”

Very first you have to be at least 18 years old to participate in this. You should not be a current employee/intern of Facebook Inc. There will be one qualifying round in which those who can solve at least 1 problem out of 3 will advance to Online Round 1.

There will be three Online Rounds and after that an Onsite Final Round will happen. The top-scoring 25 competitors from Online Round 3 will be able to attend the final round at Facebook (California).

Good part is, Facebook will reimburse the finalist for any visa application fee and up to $100 USD in travel expenses incurred in obtaining the visa.

Prizes as announced by Facebook:

  • 1st place: $5,000
  • 2nd place: $2,000
  • 3rd place: $1,000
  • 4th – 25th place: $100 each
  • The top 100 scoring contestants in Online Round 2 will get a Hacker Cup t-shirt.
