Writing Emails with Dot and Dash Only – the Gmail Tap

by

Google has defined a new input method for composing email messages for Android and iOS devices. This feature has been introduced as Gmail Tap.

Till now we are universally using the alphabetic keyboard arrangement on various devices. And the most popular and globally used one is QWERTY style. It was invented in 1874. I think probably this is the longest running tech-invention with nominal structural alteration.

What is Gmail Tap

It is a new official app for Android and iOS devices which have only two keys for writing emails, dot and dash. There is also a separate Space bar for your convenience and to speed up typing. You can download the app from promo page.

You have to learn the short code for every letter and digit. However, after some time, your fingers will remember the pattern. And the purpose would be solved when you’ll be able to write and send mails without actually looking at the screen.

So, to write my first name (Sandeep – 7 letters) I will be hitting 11 times the dot button, and 5 times the dash button. Will it be faster than the normal board?

Let’s see the video Google has shared.
